BATMAN Golden Age Artist SHELDON MOLDOFF Dead at 91

I have some very sad news to share this morning. The Golden Age Comic Book Artist Sheldon Moldoff died last Wednesday, he was 91. In 1940 he created Hawkman for DC Comics and became a major Cover Artist for many very iconic comic books. His work was always amazing! In the 1950's he became Bob Kane's "Ghost Artist" ( with Kane, of course, taking all the credit ). He drew "Batman" from 1953 to 1967. He was responsible for creating many very iconic characters like Bat-Mite, Ace The Bat-Hound, Batwoman, and the Original Bat-Girl ( Betty Kane ). He also co-created Clayface, Poison Ivy, Dr. Achilles Milo, and Mr. Freeze.

To say that he was extremely important in "Bat-History" is no exaggeration. During his life he became a Cult Hero among Cartoonists, Animators, & other Comic Book Artists. In later life he was seen at a lot of Comic Book Conventions where he loved to meet his Fans. The artwork shown here are some of the Comicon Sketches he did. He will be missed & his contributions to both BATMAN and the Comic Book Industry are unlimited. I'm personally very sad about his passing and wish to extent my deepest condolences to his Friends and Family, "Shelly" will be missed, deeply. R.I.P. Sheldon "Shelly" Moldoff.

1966 BATMAN TV SHOW - Fisher Price Little People Custom Toys!

Long time BAT-BLOG.COM Readers know that we like to celebrate creativity here so when I saw these cool Custom Toys I knew they had to be posted! Actually, our Good Friend BATMOBILLY spotted them at the 1966 BATMAN Message Board ( Link Button always posted on the far right-hand side of this page ). Some guy named "Turkey Bowinkle" made these amazing figures inspired by his Daughter's Fisher-Price Little People Toys. But the cool thing is that all these figures are characters ( both Heroes & Villains! ) from the 1966 BATMAN TV Show! Plus, they're all done extremely well and also capture the personality of every Actor. We got: Batman, Robin The Boy Wonder, Batgirl, The Joker, The Penguin, Riddler, King Tut, Mr. Freeze, and Bookworm!

( Thanks Batmobilly and Great Job Mr. Bowinkle, Sir! )

Nick's GASLIGHT BATMAN COSTUME Photo and EVIL VILLAINS Too!

OK, I've been meaning to publish this for awhile but I keep getting sidetracked. So, I decided this morning that I was gonna post it first thing, no matter what! The thing is, before Halloween I kept posting pictures of Batman Costumes ( 2 or 3 every day ) and then, because many people didn't have pics until after the Holiday, we got more pictures later. At one point I was kinda thinking, "Hey, I don't want people to thing that this blog is about nothing but Costumes". Ha Ha!

Whoops, sorry for my long explanation. I just want our friend Nick, who sent us this GREAT Photo, to know that we didn't forget about him or didn't care about this pic. We do, it's very cool and all the Batman-inspired Costumes here are totally insane! ( Be sure to click on it for a larger, more detailed, graphic ). Nick's costume is the "Gaslight Batman". This is a very obscure version of the Dark Knight from the Classic "Batman: Gotham By Gaslight" Elseworlds Graphic Novel set in the 1880's. Nick's suit is really unique & very well done!

Some of Nick's friends were there too and they all had incredible costumes! His friend Josh was Mr. Freeze, Amos was the Joker, and you can see Paul as Ra's Al Ghul! Every single one of these outfits are extremely impressive! A special thanks goes out to these guys for sharing this wonderful event, especially Nick.

New BATMAN TOYS - DC Super Friends MR. FREEZE CAR Variations

Here's a quick post to share some news about a brand-new Batman Toy & it comes in 2 variations. Bat-Reporter, Batmobilly, spotted this new DC SUPER FRIENDS Fisher Price SHAKE N' GO MR FREEZE CAR ( made by Mattel ) at a Target Store & then later noticed it comes in 2 different colors. Now, I'm not one of those obsessed "Completest Collectors" who buys every variation of everything but I thought this news would be worthy as far as picking out a favorite color ( I like the lighter colored car better ). Thanks Batmobilly!

Andy's BATMAN and JOKER Custom Artwork

Over at the Bat-Blog's Facebook page we recently met a very talented Graphic Artist named Andy Pemberton. He's a huge Batman Fan & since his Son is too he has even made a few items for his him. The first photo shows a nice pair of Custom-Painted Converse Shoes with images of Batman and The Joker from the "Batman: The Brave and The Bold" TV Show. This pair looks incredible & whoever does marketing for that show should sell these, they're great! But Andy's other shoes he has made are nice too. Check out the ones with Mr. Freeze ( Animated Series ) & Poison Ivy ( Comic Book Cover ) graphics... nice! Then, in the last photo, there's a few items Andy made for his Son. It's a Custom 1966 Batmobile-Inspired Bicycle Ride-On!! He also made him a Bike Safety-Helmet that looks like the Cowl worn by Adam West. Plus, there's a great Messenger Bike Bag with graphics from the animated intro to the classic '66 TV Show... AWESOME!! ( Thanks to Andy for sharing these pics & keep up the good work ).

David's BATMAN ANIMATED SERIES Wall Murals

Here's a room that all Batman Fans would love to live in. These pics were sent in to us by a friend over at Facebook. His name is David & he says that this is the room where he does a lot of artwork. You can see his Drawing Table over in the corner. There are some really cool pieces of Batman stuff laying around ( Toys, Statues, Books, etc... ) but, of course, the main focus of the room are the wall murals. There are 2 major themes here: Heroes and Villains. For the "Heroes Wall" we get Batman, Robin, Batgirl, and Nightwing on a rooftop in Gotham City. It's done in the graphic art style of "The Adventures of Batman and Robin" animated series. Then, we get some Villains: Two-Face, Poison Ivy, Catwoman, The Joker, Harley Quinn, Clayface, & Mr. Freeze. They're all hanging out in front of Arkham Asylum! The artwork here is very well done. Overall the room is extremely excellent! A special thanks goes out to David for sharing his personal space. We totally love this room!

BATMAN ORIGINAL ART Wacky Wallpaper Wednesday!

OK, For "Wacky Wallpaper Wednesday" I thought I would go with a Batman theme that celebrates ART. The 1st background was made using a drawing submitted by our friend Drew. Yes, he drew this amazing piece of art showing all our favorite Batman Villains! You got: The Joker, Catwoman, Scarecrow, Man-Bat, Two-Face, Clayface, Riddler, Poison ivy, The Penguin, Mr. Freeze, & Killer Croc!! Whew, that's a lot of evil right there! Thanks to Drew for sending us this pic, he did a great job on it. The next wallpaper is a photo sent in by our friend Michael. He saw this thing in the front yard of a sculptor in California.
