JOE KUBERT TRIBUTE - The Greatest Comic Book Artist Ever!

OK, I'm gonna try to get through this post without crying and I'm being completely serious. Yesterday, while goofing around on Facebook, I came across the tragic news that a personal childhood hero of mine, the legendary Comic Book Artist Joe Kubert, passed away. He was 85 years old. Mr. Kubert had a very long career working in comics and all of his artwork has become totally iconic. Once you see it you can never forget it. He is mainly known for his work on Tarzan & Sgt. Rock but my personal favorites were when he drew Batman. He just had an incredible style.

I never had the privilege of meeting him but about 2 months ago our friend in New Jersey, BatDave, went to a signing at a popular Comic Book Store in New York City. Dave said that Joe Kubert was one of the nicest guys he had ever met. He also said he was kinda shocked that Mr. Kubert was not even charging for Autographs, a rare thing in today's greedy marketplace. But this doesn't surprise me as I have always been told by other friends who have met him that he was always very down to earth & super friendly. Another thing I know is that his art will live on forever. In fact, it's hard for me to even think about any other Artist even drawing Sgt. Rock. His style was so much a part of that character. He will be missed. My condolences go out to his friend and family. Please find peace & know that he will live on forever in the hearts of Comic Book Fans all over the world.

BATMAN APPEARANCES in the MOTHER GOOSE & GRIMM Newspaper Comic Strip

Every now and then, in the newspaper, you'll see a reference to BATMAN in one of the Comic Strips. There are 2 that do this a lot. One is "Bizarro" by Dan Piraro, a great strip with wonderful artwork & fun humor! Then, shown here, are a few examples of "Mother Goose & Grimm" by Mike Peters. I've seen this guy make fun of "Batman" many times & I'm thinking he's a huge DC Comics Fan. Here are a few recent ones that are totally hilarious! Desmond's New BATMAN CONVERSE SHOES For Kids!

Here is our Good Buddy Desmond. He's a very cool little kid and what's even cooler is, he's a HUGE Batman Fan! I mean, this Kid is totally coo-coo crazy for the Dark Knight! Well, here's a photo of him that his Mom recently emailed to us because he wanted us to all see his brand-new BATMAN Shoes. These are special Converse Sneakers and you can find them at Journey's. I really like the design of these and they're perfect for children. Oh yeah, you might notice in the 1st pic that Desmond is also sporting a cool Batman Logo T-Shirt AND Bat-Sunglasses!

ROUGH JUSTICE - The DC Comics Sketches of ALEX ROSS - Now in Paperback!

OK, is it called "Paperback" or "Soft Cover"? I'm confused, ha! But anyways, you might remember a post here awhile back reporting about a new book titled, "ROUGH JUSTICE The DC Comics Sketches of ALEX ROSS".  It's an amazing book with tons and tons of great color photos of the beautiful Artwork and Paintings done by Alex Ross. The book's main focus is work he did for DC Comics and there is a lot of great Batman stuff there. Plus, the book was designed by Chip Kidd so you know it's great. Well, this post is to announce that it's been issued again but this time in paperback, or soft cover, you know what I mean! Also, to change the book up a little bit, because it's a new format, they put BATMAN on the cover!! In fact, click on the photo up above for more detail. Yes, you read that right, DIAL B FOR BLOG is Back! Now a lot of people are gonna be real excited about this news. Back in the day, DIAL B FOR BLOG was a really fun website. It covered silver age comic book history like no other. It had style, substance, & was very well designed. But then one day the owner/creator decided to quit. It was discovered that he had a set goal to reach a certain number of posts & then quit. So, after hitting that number, he did. The site was left up for people to enjoy but it was never updated for a really long time. Well I got an email from him & he said he's bringing it back. No way! I didn't believe him. HARLEY QUINN Will Be the Next DC Comics Bishoujo Statue by Kotobukiya

The Joker's ever faithful Companion and Partner in Crime, HARLEY QUINN, is the newest Femme Fatale to appear in Kotobukiya's DC Comics Bishoujo statue collection. She stands a little bit over 10 inches tall ( 1:7 Scale to be exact ). This image of HARLEY QUINN is based on an original
illustration from Japanese Artist Shunya Yamashita. He was inspired by the character's look in Batman: The Animated Series rather than her current 'modernized' appearance in DC Comics. This PVC STATUE was sculpted by Masahiro "Gill Gill" Takahashi to keep the level of detail fans demand from the line. Kotobukiya's HARLEY QUINN Bishoujo Statue is due to come out in September, 2012 and will retail for around $59.99.

A Friend of ours has recently started a new Art Project where they're posting "Silver-Age DC Comics Superhero" Comic Cards done in a cute cartoon retro-style. THE DARK KNIGHT RISES - 1:12 Scale Statues of Batman, Catwoman, and Bane

DC Direct just announced a set of three brand-new 1:12 scale statues to be released BEFORE "The Dark Knight Rises" Batman Movie comes out on July 20th, 2012. They're all sculpted by Artist David Cortes. Of course the 3 characters will be Batman, Catwoman, and Bane. They are all full-figure pieces with a base or small piece of Gotham City. Oh yeah, duh, the Release date will be July 4th. An easy date for some of us Americans to remember because it's Independence Day, the birth of our nation ( Is Nolan going all "political on us" in this 3rd film? ). The Retail Price will be about 80 bucks, each.
