Vintage 1970's BATMAN AND BATGIRL COSTUME Family Photo

I recently became Friends with a cute girl in California named Cyndi who was kind enough to share this amazing Vintage BATMAN Family Photo. It's a picture of her parents, Sharon and John, at a Halloween Party in the 1970's!! They both went as Batman and Batgirl ( or, is that "Batwoman"? ha ha ). The costumes were homemade, which is the best, and Cyndi said she can still remember her Dad cutting-out the Bat-Logos for them out of felt.

One personal note I'd like to share is that, sadly, Cyndi reported that her Dad is no longer with us but, "He would really enjoy the fact that people would see this picture and it would bring them some happiness". That's very cool. So this post if for him. I already know that people will love it because it's fun and wacky! ( Thanks Cyndi for sharing this cool pic!! )

BATWOMAN, BATGIRL, and BATMAN ARKHAM CITY - Wacky Wallpaper Wednesday!

Brand-New Fans of the BAT-BLOG ( where have you been? ) will soon discover that we post a few FREE Batman Backgrounds every week. We call it "Wacky Wallpaper Wednesday!". Yeah, I know, it's corny but easy to remember.  But anyways, recently I was inspired by some Batman-related Comic Book Covers so that's where these new graphics come from.

The 1st one uses artwork from the cover to the new BATGIRL #12 ( Art by Ardian Syaf and Vicente Cinfuentes ). This issue will be out in August, 2012.

The 2nd one is from BATMAN: ARKHAM UNHINGED # 5 ( Art by Dave Wilkins ), also coming out in August.

BATMAN Golden Age Artist SHELDON MOLDOFF Dead at 91

I have some very sad news to share this morning. The Golden Age Comic Book Artist Sheldon Moldoff died last Wednesday, he was 91. In 1940 he created Hawkman for DC Comics and became a major Cover Artist for many very iconic comic books. His work was always amazing! In the 1950's he became Bob Kane's "Ghost Artist" ( with Kane, of course, taking all the credit ). He drew "Batman" from 1953 to 1967. He was responsible for creating many very iconic characters like Bat-Mite, Ace The Bat-Hound, Batwoman, and the Original Bat-Girl ( Betty Kane ). He also co-created Clayface, Poison Ivy, Dr. Achilles Milo, and Mr. Freeze.



To say that he was extremely important in "Bat-History" is no exaggeration. During his life he became a Cult Hero among Cartoonists, Animators, & other Comic Book Artists. In later life he was seen at a lot of Comic Book Conventions where he loved to meet his Fans. The artwork shown here are some of the Comicon Sketches he did. He will be missed & his contributions to both BATMAN and the Comic Book Industry are unlimited. I'm personally very sad about his passing and wish to extent my deepest condolences to his Friends and Family, "Shelly" will be missed, deeply. R.I.P. Sheldon "Shelly" Moldoff.

CELEBRATING BATWOMAN - JH Williams III and W Haden Blackman To Appear at ISOTOPE COMIC LOUNGE

Everyone who lives within a 300 mile radius of San Francisco will want to go to this event! The two main creators of DC Comics' BATWOMAN, J.H. Williams III and W. Haden Blackman, will be having an event called "The New 52 Art Tour" at the ISOTOPE COMIC BOOK LOUNGE on Saturday, December 3rd, 2011. Basically, it's a BATWOMAN Signing, Celebration, and Original Art Installation.



The New 52 Art Tour Portfolio will include six 11×17 sets of artwork ( from script to inks to the final full-color production pages ), including a three piece BATWOMAN collection. And on display for the entire month of December in the Isotope’s legendary original art gallery will be every page of JH Williams III’s hand-drawn artwork for BATWOMAN issue #3. These pages will only be displayed together for the public this one time, and nowhere else on the planet!



The Art Show is broken down into two parts: The "All-Ages Autograph Session" will be between 3:00 to 6:00 pm. Now even thought everything we have talked about is a FREE event, the 2nd half is a good deal at only $10.00. There will be a "Batwoman Afterparty" for "Adults Only" that will run from 8:00pm to Midnight. Drinks will be served and the cool thing is that you get an AWESOME "J.H. Williams III Pirate Girl Pin-Up Highball Glass". So, it is well worth the $10 admission, plus it sounds like a great time. BATMOBILE REPLICA CARS & GOLDEN AGE BATWOMAN - Wacky Wallpaper Wednesday!

If you read the Bat-Blog yesterday then you know we did a post about the "Michael Uslan Batman Book Signing" that happened in New Jersey last weekend. Well, for the event, they had a few Batmobile Replica Cars on display that were supplied by Gotham City Supercars. That's the 1st BATMAN WALLPAPER presented here. The photo features a very nice 1966 Batmobile & the cool car from the 1989 Movie. I would have tried to steal them BOTH, ha!







Then, the 2nd wallpaper background shares an image of BATWOMAN from the Golden Age. It's a convention drawing by Sheldon Moldoff. You see, I recently got an email from a Bat-Blog Fan asking to see a "Batwoman Background" showing her as she appeared in the TV Cartoon, "Batman: The Brave and The Bold". Yes, she made an appearance. Well, I did have some nice graphics of her but they're on my old computer that I can't access. Then, I searched Google forever trying to find these pics & could never find anything decent. Then, I asked the Warner Bros PR Dept to please send me some pics but that's taking forever. So I finally settled on these. Sorry Dude, I'll have those images for you when I can get them. In the mean time please enjoy this one.

Vintage 1950's BATGIRL SQUADRON JACKET PATCH - US Navy VP-24

OK, I know the Bat-Blog reports some strange stuff every now & then but I thought this was pretty cool, from a "Military History" point-of-view. This is an Original US Navy VP-24 Squadron Jacket Patch from the 1950's ( probably from the "Korean War" ). It was made by the Ace Novelty Patch Company in Tokyo, Japan. The cool thing is the mascot is BATGIRL! OK, That's kind of a stretch, but it could also be BATWOMAN! I mean, look at the bat-wings cape & the mask, ha! This particular Military Patch was once owned by a US Navy WWII Enlisted Pilot who later retired as a Lieutenant. He was a survivor of Pearl Harbor & became an Aviator. He also served in the war in Korea. Toward the end of his career he was involved in Search & Rescue missions.

Here are some brand new images from the DC UNIVERSE ONLINE Video Game showing one of Batman's scariest villains, The Scarecrow! The cool thing too is that you also get to see Batwoman & she looks awesome! Wow, this game just keeps looking better all the time.

Wacky Cosplay Fun Time at 2010 Comic Con International

Check out these extremely cool pics from our friends Josh & Jenn. This year they went to the Comic Con International in San Diego & they totally dressed-up for the occasion! Josh was Two-Face, Jenn was Poison Ivy, & their friends ( sorry, I don't know their names ) were Catwoman, Black Canary, & Batgirl ( or is she suppose to be Batwoman? ). Judging by the photos, it looks like they all had a total blast! These pics sort of crack me up because I know these people in real-life & it's a big surprise that they would go to this event, ha! But regardless, they all look really great in all their costumes. ( Thanks to Josh for sending the evidence ).

BATWOMAN WALLPAPER BACKGROUNDS ( Batman's Detective Comics )

The idea for this post actually came from a Female Bat-Blog Reader. She said something to the effect of, "I love your Batman Wallpapers but you hardly represent the woman characters". Ouch! It really hurt my feelings & I cried for a long time. Then, after wiping away my tears, I decided to create a few Kate Kane BATWOMAN Desktop Backgrounds, just for her. The 1st one is a graphic image right out of Detective Comics. I think the artwork was done by J. H. Williams III. All the others were drawn by Cameron Stewart. The "head shot" is from a comic book convention sketch.

He's shown here dressed up like Batman, with his lovely Wife as Batgirl ( Or is it BatWOMAN? ), & their Precious Child, Robin, The Boy Wonder! BATWOMAN Action Figure Portrait Photo

WOW! This is a pretty cool figure! A friend to the Bat-Blog, known as Neville, sent us this super-nice close-up photo of one of his brand-new toys. He explained, "This is my action figure of Batwoman, it's an alternate universe version of the Dark Knight, from issue #24 - 25 of Batman/Superman. Her name is Helena Wayne." Thanks Neville, awesome pic!

Original Comic Book Art: BATMAN FAMILY #14 Cover By Jim Aparo

As a young teen in the early 1970's, reading Batman comic books, one of my favorite artists from that period was Jim Aparo. He had a very distinct art style that you could notice right away. He worked on many different DC Comics at that time. I used to really love a vintage comic book titled BATMAN FAMILY. It only existed for a few years ( 1975 to 1978 ) but is now considered a classic. It featured Batman but the main focus was all of his various sidekicks: Robin, Batgirl, Alfred, Jim Gordon, Batwoman ( Kathy Kane ), Man-Bat, The Huntress, & even Ace, The Bat-Hound! Video, BATMAN: MYSTERY OF THE BATWOMAN Behind The Scenes With The Voice Actors!

Here at the Bat-Blog we have a friend named "Brohawk" who's an extremely talented graphic artist. His work is featured on the cover to the BATMAN: MYSTERY OF THE BATWOMAN Animated DVD Movie that came out a few years ago. Here's a photo I found at his personal website & had to share it. It seems that Warner Bros, around the time of the release of this movie, put up this HUGE vinyl banner advertising the event. "Brohawk" is shown here in the 2 photos. In the 1st one you can see how GIANT-SIZED this thing was, look how tiny he is compared to it... it's HUGE, ha ha! This must have been an amazing day for him seeing his work so large-scale like this & personally I am kinda proud of it too.

UNIVERSIAL DESIGNS creates a BATWOMAN COSTUME For the Sexy Host of a Comedy TV Talk Show!

There's this really funny Comedy TV Show called ED & RED'S NIGHT PARTY that is sort of a talk show. The main hosts are "Ed the Sock Puppet" & a pretty girl named "Red". Uhhh, she has red hair, ha ha. Well, for one episode they hired a special effects company called Universal Designs to make a custom BATWOMAN Costume for Red. Down below is a video from the actual show where they present the final product & also show it being made, it's pretty funny but I gotta warn ya there is some cussing ( not kid safe )! The finished costume is extremely awesome & Universal Designs did a great job on it. BATMAN, ROBIN, & BATWOMAN Bootleg Movie Ads From The Philippines!

The other day I came across a really cool website with a weird twist. It features many vintage newspaper ads for bootleg films & exploitation movies that were made in the Philippines. One is titled BATMAN VERSES DRACULA & the other one is BATWOMAN AND ROBIN. It's a shame but these movies are lost in time with no known copies to exist. Oh man, these would be really great to watch. Too bad they're lost forever. The site is called Video48 & has a lot of wacky Pinoy film history. Here's a link to check it out.

Tonight I needed some more disk space on my computer so I decided to post a few Batman Desktop Wallpapers because they're pretty BIG & take a lot of room. This is a nice assortment: 1. Multiple Pattern of graphic art for the 1966 MARX BATMOBILE toy car ride, 2. Batwoman on a Black Background, 3. Vintage 1960's Tin Toy Gun of Batman Raygun, & 4. This is a photo I found on Flickr of a Wall of Batman Graffitti ( The photo was taken by a guy named "anarchosyn" but he isn't endorsing the Bat-Blog ). Whew! My loss is your gain. BATWOMAN La Mujer Murcielago - Batman Cult Movie Now on DVD

LA MUJER MURCIELAGO!! In the late 60's there was a very low-budget Batman Movie, actually "Batwoman Movie", released in 1968 that is now a super cult classic. The title is LA MUJER MURCIELAGO & it was directed by René Cardona. It stars Maura Monti as Gloria / Batwoman. The basic story is that a mad super-scientist is wanting to create a supreme race of Super-Gill Men so he uses the glands of wrestlers because they are "perfect". Wrestlers are winding up dead all over Acapulco so the call goes out for that mysterious crime fighter BATWOMAN! Trust me, it's great stuff, ha ha! Now for the longest time this bootleg movie has been really difficult to find but now there's a lot of companies printing these on DVD. At the time of this writing I couldn't any copies on Amazon or ebay but a quick Google search will provide a lot of options. Here's a short clip from YouTube:

Classic Comic Book Cover : Batman # 129

This is the cover to Batman # 129 made during their "wacky period". The villain tells Batman & Robin, "DON'T COME ANY CLOSER, BATMAN, OR I'LL TURN THE FAN TO FULL SPEED---AND BATWOMAN WILL BE DOOMED!". Ha Ha, great stuff!

Batman Wacky Wallpaper Wednesday! VINTAGE BATWOMAN ON HER BAT-CYCLE

REMEMBER : Every Wednesday is "Wacky Wallpaper Wednesday" at the BAT-BLOG!! Each week we try to theme the wallpaper in a way so that everybody gets something they like. This time we thought we would use the crazy theory "Something old, something new". The 1st wallpaper, featuring vintage 1940's graphics of Batwoman on her Bat-Cycle, was actually made by a BAT-BLOG Reader & sent to us thru our Bat-Blog Message Board! I know it sounds kinda corny but it was actually a very proud moment for us here, ha ha. He did a great job on it & we really love the "Golden Age" Batman! The 2nd wallpaper is a more recent version of Batman & we like the gothic buildings with the moonlight behind him, pretty cool.
