BATMAN Golden Age Artist SHELDON MOLDOFF Dead at 91

I have some very sad news to share this morning. The Golden Age Comic Book Artist Sheldon Moldoff died last Wednesday, he was 91. In 1940 he created Hawkman for DC Comics and became a major Cover Artist for many very iconic comic books. His work was always amazing! In the 1950's he became Bob Kane's "Ghost Artist" ( with Kane, of course, taking all the credit ). He drew "Batman" from 1953 to 1967. He was responsible for creating many very iconic characters like Bat-Mite, Ace The Bat-Hound, Batwoman, and the Original Bat-Girl ( Betty Kane ). He also co-created Clayface, Poison Ivy, Dr. Achilles Milo, and Mr. Freeze.
To say that he was extremely important in "Bat-History" is no exaggeration. During his life he became a Cult Hero among Cartoonists, Animators, & other Comic Book Artists. In later life he was seen at a lot of Comic Book Conventions where he loved to meet his Fans. The artwork shown here are some of the Comicon Sketches he did. He will be missed & his contributions to both BATMAN and the Comic Book Industry are unlimited. I'm personally very sad about his passing and wish to extent my deepest condolences to his Friends and Family, "Shelly" will be missed, deeply. R.I.P. Sheldon "Shelly" Moldoff.

New 2012 GOLDEN AGE BATMAN Graphic Novel Books in Argentina!!

Oh Man, BATMAN Fans and Collectors who live in Argentina are having fun right now! The local CLARIN Newspaper chain has published a special series of Batman Graphic Novels that reprint the first 100 Batman Stories starting with the Classic Golden Age 1939 DETECTIVE COMICS #27 Story. I think they're basically reprints of the "Batman Chronicles" Books we had here in the US, but in a different format. Anyways, there will be 16 Issues to collect and Volume # 1 is out, right now, as we speak! The books have 100 pages and are in full-color. Our good friend Cesar told us about these ( He lives there. Oh, and Thanks Cesar! ) and he said they're pretty nice quality. Shown here is the cover to Volume #1, an advertisement showing other issues, and then the last photo is a pic of some die-cut promo items that were suppliments inside the Clarin Newspaper.

A TRIBUTE TO JERRY ROBINSON - Golden Age BATMAN Wallpapers

Yesterday, a Friend on Facebook suggested the idea of creating a few BATMAN Wallpapers using the "Golden Age Artwork" of Jerry Robinson as sort of a Tribute. Wow, what a great idea!
So, here are some backgrounds I made last night. The first two are images from 2 different comic book covers drawn By Jerry Robinson that featured the Joker. I thought these were appropriate since he created that character.
Then, the next two are a comic book cover he did with the Penguin ( That Villain's 1st Appearance! ). They also feature ROBIN, The Boy Wonder, another character Mr. Robinson created. It's also important to note that the last one is the Original Art for the previous image.

JERRY ROBINSON - Creator of The Joker and Robin The Boy Wonder, Dies at Age 89

It's with an extremely sad and very heavy heart that I have to report the passing away of a Comic Book Legend, Jerry Robinson. He died at the age of 89. Almost everybody who loves Comic Books knows his many major contributions to the field of Comics. He created the greatest Villain in Pop Culture, the Joker. He also created Robin, the Boy Wonder. He was one of the last surviving Comic Book Artists from the "Golden Age".
I never met him in person but friends of mine who have all said he was a really great guy, a very nice person. I once had a conversation with him online & when I mentioned I did a little website called the BAT-BLOG he said, "Yeah, I've read it a few times, it's great! Gee, you really like Batman!". Wow! I can't begin to express what a trill that was!! My blog, or even the actual character, probably would not exist without this guy. He gave us all so much. Thank you Mr. Robinson for all you have done. We will never forget you.

BATMAN + CARTOON CHARACTERS = Funny Parody Humor!

This quick post is a collection of funny pictures that revolve around the idea of Batman being mutated with other well-known Cartoon Characters. The examples include a T-Shirt Design with Winnie The Pooh & Piglet as the Dynamic Duo, ha! A reinterpretation of the Golden Age Batman origin story, but instead of a BAT crashing through the window of Wayne Manor it just happens to be a Pokemon creature, ha! Then, last but not least, is a Custom-Made Action Figure showing Patrick, from the Spongebob Squarepants Show, as the Dark Knight, ha!!

BATMOBILE REPLICA CARS & GOLDEN AGE BATWOMAN - Wacky Wallpaper Wednesday!

If you read the Bat-Blog yesterday then you know we did a post about the "Michael Uslan Batman Book Signing" that happened in New Jersey last weekend. Well, for the event, they had a few Batmobile Replica Cars on display that were supplied by Gotham City Supercars. That's the 1st BATMAN WALLPAPER presented here. The photo features a very nice 1966 Batmobile & the cool car from the 1989 Movie. I would have tried to steal them BOTH, ha!

Then, the 2nd wallpaper background shares an image of BATWOMAN from the Golden Age. It's a convention drawing by Sheldon Moldoff. You see, I recently got an email from a Bat-Blog Fan asking to see a "Batwoman Background" showing her as she appeared in the TV Cartoon, "Batman: The Brave and The Bold". Yes, she made an appearance. Well, I did have some nice graphics of her but they're on my old computer that I can't access. Then, I searched Google forever trying to find these pics & could never find anything decent. Then, I asked the Warner Bros PR Dept to please send me some pics but that's taking forever. So I finally settled on these. Sorry Dude, I'll have those images for you when I can get them. In the mean time please enjoy this one.

NEW BATMAN FINE ART PRINT - Tribute To Dick Sprang & Carmine Infantino

Awhile back, right here on the Bat-Blog, we featured some amazing artwork by an Artist named Christopher Franchi. He did this piece that combined a classic iconic image of Batman and Robin, by Carmine Infantino, & he recreated it in the drawing style of Golden Age Comic Book Artist Dick Sprang. I mean, if you're familiar with both of these Artists you can see the combination and it's an extremely awesome image. Well, Chris got it licensed by DC Comics & now it's a Limited Edition Fine Art Print ( only 75 will be made, so, very limited ). It's pretty BIG, measuring about 24" X 36" and is printed on a sturdy, high quality, card stock. It is also signed by the Artist. The thing is, it's now on eBay & I wanted to share this with my Readers because I know a lot of people will want one! For more information, just CLICK HERE!

RETRO BATMAN BACKGROUNDS - Wacky Wallpaper Wednesday!

Hey Boys and Girls, it's time again for "Wacky Wallpaper Wednesday"! This is when the BAT-BLOG.COM posts a few BATMAN WALLPAPERS for your viewing pleasure. Please be sure to share them with all your friends!!
Now, the 1st one was made using a high-resolution photo of a Vintage 1940's BATMAN SERIAL Movie Poster. I'm totally loving the "Golden Age" style! The 2nd one was created by a 3-D Computer Artist who was inspired by the 1966 BATMAN TV Show. So, I guess both of these are sort of retro!

Make this your personal wallpaper & I guarantee you will drool for days. Then, next-up, is this unusual image of Batman and Robin fighting Two-Face. I'm sad to report that Gene Colan has passed away. He was 84 years old. Most Comic Book Collectors & Fans will for sure know who this incredible Artist is because he worked in the business for many years. He co-created Blade ( The Marvel Comics character that became a Wesley Snipes movie ). His work on Howard The Duck & Daredevil is classic pop culture. I fondly remember his artwork from my childhood.
