NEW BATMAN FINE ART PRINT - Tribute To Dick Sprang & Carmine Infantino

Awhile back, right here on the Bat-Blog, we featured some amazing artwork by an Artist named Christopher Franchi. He did this piece that combined a classic iconic image of Batman and Robin, by Carmine Infantino, & he recreated it in the drawing style of Golden Age Comic Book Artist Dick Sprang. I mean, if you're familiar with both of these Artists you can see the combination and it's an extremely awesome image. Well, Chris got it licensed by DC Comics & now it's a Limited Edition Fine Art Print ( only 75 will be made, so, very limited ). It's pretty BIG, measuring about 24" X 36" and is printed on a sturdy, high quality, card stock. It is also signed by the Artist. NEW BATMAN BACKGROUNDS - Wacky Wallpaper Wednesday!

OK Boys and Girls! It's Wednesday, so you know what that means... Wacky Wallpapers!! This 1st one is totally amazing! It's a beautiful retro-style image of BATMAN created by Graphic Artist Chris Franchi. Actually, it's the "top half" of a poster he's working on. The image is an homage to the work of 2 major Batman Comic Book Artists from the past, Carmine Infantino and Dick Sprang. I love the use of the benday dots & the very slightly off-register color. It looks like an enlarged photo of a comics page... COOL! The next Wallpaper is a detail shot of an original Animation Cel from the BATMAN BEYOND Animated Series. I've always loved this TV show & hope others will like this too. ( A Special Thanks goes out to Chris Franchi for sharing his artwork, it's great! )

BATMAN Comic Art Inspired By Carmine Infantino

Back in the 1960's there was a major BATMAN Comic Book Artist named Carmine Infantino. He was extremely influential for saving the character from obscurity. He also created a lot of great artwork! The 1st image shown here is a piece he did that has since become very iconic. So much so that there have been posters, statues, & a ton of parodies of it. Here are 2 wonderful examples: The 2nd photo shows a recent drawing by Christopher Franchi. He not only did an homage to Infantino, but the whole thing is drawn in the cartoon-style of another famous Batman Artist named Dick Sprang. The combination is AWESOME! BATMAN AND ROBIN Toon Tumbler Glass - DC Comics 75th Anniversary

Here's a brand-new Batman product we recently came across that is totally cool! This is a BATMAN AND ROBIN GLASS made to celebrate the 75th Anniversary of DC Comics. This was a special promo glass made by Toon Tumblers for the Baltimore Comic Con. The glass features different artwork on both sides that was taken from a few vintage BATMAN comic book covers. One represents the 1940's Golden Age ( Batman # 9 ) & the other is more Modern-Day ( Batman and Robin, The Boy Wonder # 9 ). I guess it's also important to note that the artists are Dick Sprang & Jim Lee. I have shown the original covers here for reference. I have always loved this iconic image of "Batman & Robin in The Spotlight"...it's Classic! DICK SPRANG TRIBUTE - Golden Age Batman Comic Book Artist

This is pretty cool! In a small Government Building in the Capitol Reef National Park in Utah there is a small plaque hanging on the wall that is a Tribute To Dick Sprang. Of course he was one of the original comic book artists of the Golden Age of comics!! Here at the Bat-Blog we totally love his artwork, he's really great! This weird piece of Bat-History was discovered by our friend Wayne Smith, who stumbled upon it while on vacation! Take a look at his photo & read what the message says, it's pretty interesting! THE JOKER: Batman Desktop Wallpaper Backgrounds

It's Wacky Wallpaper Wednesday™ again & this time I thought I would go with a Joker Theme. Everybody loves the Joker & I also thought it would be nice to do "something old & something new". First, the "old". This graphic was sent in by a Bat-Blog Reader who has really great taste. Why? Well, for one, He enjoys reading the Bat-Blog ( ha ha ) & two, because he loves the old Golden Age era artwork by Dick Sprang. This art shown here was a 2-page spread from some publication featuring Sprang's awesome style. The Joker is prominently featured in the center so I thought that was enough so that it could pass as "Joker Wallpaper", right? OK, on to the "new" background. Right now you can't get any more "new" than the soon-to-be-released BATMAN: ARKHAM ASYLUM Video Game. This graphic, showing the Joker's large evil grin with a picture of the Arkham Asylum building in it, is going to be the cover to the next issue of Playstation Magazine. They have a World Exclusive Story on how the Joker will be a special character you can play only on the Sony Playstation 3 Console.

What if Frank Miller's Batman existed during the 1950's?

Here's a parody ( from Mad Magazine? ) where they took the gritty realistic Frank Miller modern-day "Goddamn Batman" & put him in a story with Batman characters from the 1950's. The Penguin & Robin characters look like they are drawn by Dick Sprang & they have a "Gee, Golly!" kind of attitude, all sweet & innocent. Batman does not! If you think about the irony here it's pretty gosh-darn funny...Gee Golly, or I mean, dammit! ( Depending on your browser you might have to click on the image to read it ). Pop Artist Stephen Jones Gets Inspiration From Vintage Batman!

A friend at MySpace sent me a link to an artist who gets a lot of inspiration from Batman, especially the golden & silver age era. His name is Stephen Jones & his stuff is pretty cool. His most recent painting is an image taken from the famous Adam West LIFE Magazine cover from 1966. Another piece of art is a Circle Painting ( I think that's called "Tondo" in the art galleries ) with a graphic that looks a lot like Batman & Robin artwork by the Golden Age Comic Book Artist Dick Sprang. The last one, is easy to guess, was totally inspired by the 1966 TV Show ( That one is my favorite! ). Down below is a link where you can check out more of his art. Batman Parody: DOSTOYEVSKY COMICS Crime and Punishment

One of my favorite artists, R. Sikoryak, drew a really great Batman Parody Comic Book in the art style of Golden Age artist Dick Sprang titled DOSTOYEVSKY COMICS. What he does is recreates the Classic Book CRIME AND PUNISHMENT ( Written by Fyodor Dostoyevsky ) with Batman characters. The artwork is awesome but a lot of people are really impressed with how well it sticks to the actual story of the book. The Mock Cover to this book is shown up above & then 2 of my favorite panels. Batman Art Work : DICK SPRANG Framed BATCAVE Art Print

A new friend to the Bat-Blog, named Hans, sent us this photo of a Batman Fine Art Print he recently purchased & had framed. He lives in the Netherlands & is a huge Batman Fan! The artwork is done by Classic Golden Age Comic Book Artist Dick Sprang. It's a lithograph & Han said it was # 84 of only 175. Wow! This is an amazing piece of art. This was a highly detailed graphic showing the many different aspects of the classic BATCAVE. You see the Giant Penny, The Bat-Computers, The Bat-Vehicles ( Batmobiles, Bat-Plane, Bat-Copter, etc...), The Stuffed Dinosaur, & The Bat-Lab. You also have a Rouge's Gallery with The Joker, Penguin, Riddler, Two-Face, & Catwoman too. I remember when these came out & I really wanted one but could not afford it at the time....looks great Han, great job on the framing too, very nice!! Also, thank you for sending us this photo to share. We wish all Bat-Blog readers send a photo!

TWO FREE BATMAN DESKTOP WALLPAPERS

Every Wednesday is "Wacky Wallpapers Wednesday" at the BAT-BLOG & I was so excited about posting these 2 that I posted them about an hour & a half before Wed, ha ha! The 1st one is an incredible graphic by one of my all-time favorite Batman comic book artists, Dick Sprang. This guy is a golden-age classic icon & a true star of the comic art world! I love his "cartoon" style art & bold primary colors. I also appreciate the way he draws such sharp clean lines. Speaking of clean lines, the next wallpaper features a graphic by a more current Batman artist, Kevin Nowlan. His stuff is really good too. This was a convention sketch in pencil & looks really cool as wallpaper....check 'em out! Original Art for Golden Age 1940's Batman Comic Strip

Here's the original comic strip art work for the Batman Daily Newspaper Strip dated February 19th, 1946. ( Click the small picture up above for a larger, more detailed, photo ). The art work was done by Dick Sprang & Charles Paris. There are 2 new books recently published that reprint the vintage 40's Batman comic strips & I have been really enjoying these again. When I saw this picture on the internet of some original art I had to share it.....classic stuff!

Classic 1940's Batman & Robin Comic Book Cover From The Golden Age!

Here's a wonderful graphic I found the other day of a really RARE Batman & Robin comic book from the 1940's. The title of this book is STAR SPANGLED COMICS, Issue # 91. The cover was done by classic Batman comic book artist Dick Sprang. I really love his style alot & though my readers would enjoy this picture too!
