Tim Burton's 'Frankenweenie’ 360 Degree Virtual Set Tours

I don't normally cover animation, but this Tim Burton film looks amazing. I consider him not only a great director but also a great concept artist. He sketches and draws for every film he makes.

From Christian Devita:
"Walt Disney Studios announced that they are launching a touring exhibition featuring the art of Tim Burton’s Frankenweenie, prior to the film's release on the 5th of October, 2012.

"The Art of Frankenweenie exhibition will premiere in Barcelona, Spain, at CineEurope, June 18-21, and in the U.S. at Comic-Con 2012 in San Diego, California, July 11-15. When the tour is complete it will have visited seven countries, including Spain, France, England, Japan, Mexico, Canada and the U.S.A.

"The Art of Frankenweenie exhibition captures the magic of the filmmaking process, inspired by classic horror movie monsters, and gives audiences an exclusive glimpse into the stop-motion animation process brought to life by Tim.

"From original sketches drawn by Burton, to extensive props, sets and puppets, the exhibition showcases the artistic detail and vision that has gone into bringing to the big screen this heartwarming little tale of a boy who, inspired by science and the love of his dog, brings his beloved pet back from the dead."

Watch a preview in the video below.

Here are the tour dates.
  • 06/18 – 06/21 Barcelona, Spain
  • 07/11 – 07/15 San Diego, California (Comic-Con)
  • 07/27 – 08/07 Mexico City, Mexico
  • 08/23 – 08//26 Toronto, Canada

THE DARK KNIGHT RISES - Book Publishing News

OK, it looks like Book Publishers are gonna go totally crazy pumping out THE DARK KNIGHT RISES Movie-related books this time around. Here are just a few examples that have popped-up recently on Amazon and other retail sites, there will be many many more! Please keep in mind also that these are books marketed more toward younger readers ( weird ), but there will also be some very serious books too. I really like some of the graphics used here and it's neat to see more pics of Bane & Catwoman. Oh yeah, the merchandising for this film is gonna be crazy! Remember, if YOU, the Bat-Blog Reader, see ANY brand-new Bat-Products out there ( even if it's not "movie-related" ) then please be sure to let us know, thanks!

FUNNY BATMAN NEWS - The Dark Knight Gets Busted!

Yes, "Batman" was stopped by Montgomery County Police Officers on Wednesday, March 21th, 2012 on southbound Route 29 at Prelude Drive, Silver Spring, for no tags on his Lamborghini-Batmobile. Hey, for real! This unidentified "Batman" is a real-life rich guy who just enjoys dressing-up like the Dark Knight to visit sick children in Hospitals. He says he wears the bat-suit TO the Hospital because it's extremely difficult to get into & also takes a lot of time. So, it's easier to just drive there "dressed for work".

THE DARK KNIGHT OF SLOVAKIA - Severný BATMAN

Forget Gotham City, the streets of Dunajska Streda, Slovakia are now safe because of a character named Zoltan Kohari. Dressed as his favorite Comic Book Superhero, the Dark Knight, he patrols the streets keeping his city safe. He also helps old ladies carry their groceries, and calls the Police on seeing any unusual activity at night. Need more proof? Here's an official Slovakia News Broadcast:

What If Your Brain Were Trapped in a Rampaging Kill-Bot? 'Archetype' Concept Art Shows What.

How freaky would it be if you woke up in a robot body? Especially if everyone says your brain isn't even in there. The upcoming independant film Archetype has the tagline "Your Memories Are Just A Glitch".
Aaron Sims is a creature/conceptual designer working with directors like Steven Spielberg, Zack Snyder and Martin Campbell. Now he's striking out on his own as a director in a short film.
RL7 is an eight-foot tall combat robot that goes on the run after malfunctioning with vivid memories of once being human. As its creators and the military close in, RL7 battles its way to uncovering the shocking truth behind its mysterious visions and past.
Directed by Aaron Sims
starring Robert Joy (Land of the Dead, CSI:NY) and David Anders (Heros, 24).

Alex Mandra (X-Men: First Class, Green Lantern) has a few concept paintings from the upcoming film.
Here's the trailer.

The film opens January 20, 2012 and you can learn more, including watching a couple of behind-the-scenes videos, at http://www.archetype-movie.com/.

See more of Alex's work, including stuff from X-Men: First Class at http://alexmandra.blogspot.com/

Proof That BATMAN is Cooler Than Other Superheroes

I really don't care about "Celebrity News", it's shallow & lame. But I came across this paparazzi photo the other day that's kinda cool. It shows the Actor Robert Downey Jr ( Ironman & Sherlock Holmes ) walking down the street with his Son. The funny thing is his Son, Indio, is wearing a Batman T-Shirt AND Bat-Symbol Logo Belt Buckle, ha! Yes, it appears he's more of a Batman Fan than one of Ironman!

Well, I guess that is pretty cool he likes Batman but this image sort of breaks my heart a little bit. The picture is from a recent story on CBS News covering "Haiti, One Year Later". Auction News - BATMAN Comic Book Issue # 1 Sells For $55,268.75

The big comic book news right now is the fact that Heritage Auction Galleries of Dallas, TX just sold a number one issue of BATMAN for $55,268.75. Yeah, you read that right, 55 thousand! There's a photo of it up above showing that it was graded at 5.5 condition by CGC. The guy who owned it is from Alaska & bought it at a garage sale back in the 1970's. So, I'd say that was a pretty good investment. According to the Associated Press there are only about 300 known issues of this book to exist.

Welcome to "Flick Sketchr."

More updates to come as I set out to make this the premier concept art and storyboard blog on the Internet.

Salma Hayek at Batman And Robin Movie Premiere

Here's a celebrity photo I came across on the Internet the other night, at random, totally by accident. I was researching some old Batman movie stuff & when I saw this photo I thought, "Hey, it's Batman-related, I can post it!", ha ha! This is a picture of Salma Hayek at the 1997 Batman And Robin Movie Premiere. Oh My God! She is probably, easily, the most beautiful woman in the entire world! Now, just enjoy... you're welcome.
