Oh yeah! We have just teamed-up with the Mego Museum to bring you the latest BAT-BLOG CONTEST! The prize? A mint copy of "1978 REIMAGINED". It's a Fantasy Mego Toy Catalog filled with cool custom dolls, beautiful graphics & wonderful color photos!! If you remember, the Mego Toy Company went out of business in 1977 & this fantasy catalog asks the questions, "What if they didn't? What if they still produced toys in 1978? What would they have made?" OK, now part of it is a "dream list" of items we all wish they would have made & a few pieces are toys they actually had planned but never got to make. Stuff like: Dolls for the Superman Movie, more KISS Dolls, Figures based on the 1966 Batman TV Show, Universal Monsters, Scooby Doo, Wizard of OZ, Star Wars, etc...way too much to list here! Overall it's a pretty clever idea & an interesting book. It's very well made & they even feature a lot of cool Batman items. So, we're giving away one mint copy to one lucky winner. Oh man, is it already Wednesday again? Well, OK then, you know what time it is...it's "Wacky Wallpaper Wednesday™"! Today I thought I would go with a "Batmobile Theme" because The Caped Crusader has the coolest car in the whole wide world! Plus, by total random accident, I got 2 backgrounds this week from 2 different Bat-Blog Readers & they were both Batmobiles, ha ha! The 1st one was sent to us by a friend named Satish. It's a beautiful graphic of the 1989 Batmobile Car in all it's glory. I remember when that movie came out & I totally loved the car, still do today. The 2nd one is a real-life 1960's Catalog Advertisement ( maybe Sears? ) where they show a very cool "Batmobile Bedspread". Oh man! I have NEVER ever seen this before & it's so incredibly beautiful!! Seriously, I would have killed to have this as a little kid, it's so cool! Mark, thanks for sending this old vintage ad and, Satish, thank you for all the wallpapers you sent, they're great! Oh man! I gotta say that Old Toy Catalogs are some of the very best reference material out there you can get. Here's a really great example. This is a page from the 1977 Sears Catalog showing the Batmobile Pedal Car. This thing is a beautiful piece of ART that deserves to be displayed in a museum! It's kinda funny how they show that one little kid hanging all over that lame Ferrari Race Car when we all know every little boy wants the Batman car! The other funny thing is the Batmobile only costs $39.99. Just click on the above photo to see the larger version of this picture, it's pretty sweet!
One great reference for Vintage Batman Toys (other than the Bat-Blog of course, ha ha! ) are very old Sears & JC Penney Catalogs. You would be surprised what extremely RARE bat-memorabilia you can find there! Here's an example: In the mid-1960's they made a BATMAN PUNCHING BOP BAG that now is very hard-to-find, especially in MINT shape since these were all destroyed by kids playing with them. Also, once they leaked air then out in the trash they went! If there are any readers who collect these catalogs then please send us some scans. Thanks.
