MEGO MUSEUM + BAT-BLOG = 1978 MEGO CATALOG CONTEST

Oh yeah! We have just teamed-up with the Mego Museum to bring you the latest BAT-BLOG CONTEST! The prize? A mint copy of "1978 REIMAGINED". It's a Fantasy Mego Toy Catalog filled with cool custom dolls, beautiful graphics & wonderful color photos!! If you remember, the Mego Toy Company went out of business in 1977 & this fantasy catalog asks the questions, "What if they didn't? What if they still produced toys in 1978? What would they have made?" OK, now part of it is a "dream list" of items we all wish they would have made & a few pieces are toys they actually had planned but never got to make. Stuff like: Dolls for the Superman Movie, more KISS Dolls, Figures based on the 1966 Batman TV Show, Universal Monsters, Scooby Doo, Wizard of OZ, Star Wars, etc...way too much to list here! Overall it's a pretty clever idea & an interesting book. It's very well made & they even feature a lot of cool Batman items. So, we're giving away one mint copy to one lucky winner. All you have to do is email us your full name & address with the words "MEGO MUSEUM CATALOG CONTEST" in the title. The names will be collected & on Friday, July 16th, 2010 ( at midnight ) a lucky winner will be randomly chosen. Then, we'll pay the postage & send this baby to you! Our email button is down below & for more information about this wonderful book click HERE!

Vintage 1970's Batman Toys & Memorabilia - CRAZY!

The true main focus of the Bat-Blog is to share the love of collecting both new & vintage Batman toys. OK, I have neglected that a little bit lately, ha ha, sorry. So here are some wacky examples of Vintage 1970's goodness! The 1st item is totally crazy. It's a Batman Latch-Hook Kit ©1978. This was an arts & craft project where you had to weave small pieces of yard into a canvas material to make a small rug, it took days to make! I remember in my childhood my grandmother actually gave me one of these of Snoopy...it took forever, ha ha! The 2nd pic shows us the Official Batman Sky-Diving Parachutist Figure, Mint on Original Card. Now, you might have seen this figure before but this extremely RARE packaging was for the British UK Market & is different than the American version. The 3rd item is one of those wonderful "generic toys" where, out of the package, has absolutely NOTHING to do with the character. All the graphics are ON the header card. This product tied into the Superfriends TV Cartoon craze. The last item is one that I never knew existed & I gotta research it later for another post because I have never seen them before. The TOPPS Trading Card Company came out with a series of "Comic Book Cover" Stickers. As you can see there's a Batman Cover shown on the top left-hand side. OK, I hope you have enjoyed some of these wacky-crazy Batman items! If you have any weird pieces like this from the 70's then please shoot us a photo.

Vintage 1970's MEGO DOLLS AD : Magnetic Batman & Robin

Here's a blast from the past some of you might recognize. This is an original comic book advertisement for the, now classic, 12 1/2" MAGNETIC BATMAN & ROBIN Dolls made by Mego Toys. The weird thing about it is that it's all comic book art work & it doesn't have a photograph of the actual toy. If you're a Mego Fan then be sure to visit our archives ( located at the right-side of this blog ) to see many more stories & photos of Rare Vintage 1970's Toys. We also want to recommend a great website called MegoMuseum for even more information. We have a link to them on our BAT-LINKS page ( the link button is on the top right-side ).

RARE Batman & Robin SUPER JUNIORS Vintage 1978 Rubber Vinyl Squeeze Toys

Who's the cutest little Batman & Robin ever? You are, Yes you are! Here's a set of two Batman & Robin 7" tall rubber-vinyl dolls that if you squeeze they make a sqweeky-sound like a dog toy, ha ha! These were made in 1978 for the foreign market & are called "Super Juniors". This was Warner Brothers' attempt to present some DC Comics characters as little kids but it must have never taken off. Also in this set were a Superman & Wonder Woman ( not shown ). It's sort of a mystery as to what other Super Juniors products were produced. I know that there is some "Super Juniors Contact-Sheet Paper" made in Italy. It featured the 4 characters listed above plus Green Arrow, Green Lantern, & maybe a few other characters. Other than the dolls & contact paper I'm not sure what else they made so if you have something in this wacky "Super Jrs" series then please send more info & especially a photo if ya got it!
