RETROACTIVE BATMAN Comic Books Still Going Strong! Now We Get "The 90s"!

This week, on Wednesday (2 days ago ), the latest "RETROACTIVE BATMAN, The 1990s" Comic Book came out. I have not read it yet but the cover was done by Norm Breyfogle so you know it's gotta be good, ha! It's nice to see him back drawing Batman, even if it's only for this one-shot comic. The story line involves the Ventriloquist and Scarface. Two characters Norm Breyfogle helped make famous back in the day. There's a brand new story & then they reprint a classic from the 90's. What a cool concept! DC Comics should do this more often. In the last few weeks they have also released book like these that celebrate the 70's & 80's. They were pretty popular so I see this one doing well also. It should still be in stores now, hopefully, so go grab yours today!

DC RETROACTIVE - NORM BREYFOGLE & ALAN GRANT Are Making BATMAN COMICS Again!

OK, Batman Comic Book Fans from the late 80's & early 90's will totally remember the artwork of Norm Breyfogle. He drew the character from 1987 to 1993. Well, DC Comics is bringing him back for a one-shot called "DC RETROACTIVE: BATMAN, The 90's". Now, don't look for it real soon, it doesn't hit the shops until August 17th, ha! But it should be pretty cool & well worth the wait because they're also bringing back the same Writer from that period, Alan Grant! Both Norm & Alan will revisit a pair of villains closely associated with their original run on The Caped Crusader: The Ventriloquist and Scarface! Released on a technicality one year after being arrested, this bizarre duo is determined to reclaim their status in the upper echelon of Batman’s Rogues Gallery. This “lost tale” of the era spins directly out of DETECTIVE COMICS #613, reprinted in this issue!

The Legendary BATMAN Comic Book Artist NORM BREYFOGLE will be a Special Guest at the NORTH EAST COMIC CON in Boston, Massachusetts on March 7th, 2010. So, if you live nearby, then this is your chance to meet him & maybe get a drawing or sketch of the Dark Knight. Now, another reason I mention this Boston Comic Book Convention is that they will also be giving away, as a door prize, an Original 1940's Golden Age Copy of BATMAN #1!! WOW! That would be extremely cool to win! I mean, I have wanted that iconic issue since I was about 12 years old, ha ha! For more information about this show be sure to visit their site by clicking HERE!

BATMAN vs VENTRILOQUIST & SCARFACE - a Commissioned Artwork By Norm Breyfogle

Anyone who collected or grew-up with the Batman Comic Books of the 1980's and 90's will instantly recognize this artwork done by Norm Breyfogle. In fact, he's really famous for his version of the Batmobile Car that you can see in this picture. This is a commissioned piece done recently by him ( Please click on the above image for a larger, more detailed, picture ). I love the fact that it has the Ventriloquist & Scarface Villains, way cool! But, unfortunately, he won't be doing anymore bat-sketches for awhile because he is seriously way too busy with his new job. He will be drawing not one, but two, Archie Comics in the near future. Well, not 2 issues, but 2 complete titles...every month. The workload will be totally crazy! But you also know he's gonna do a very good job & I can't wait to see it.

BATMAN TOY VEHICLES - Desktop Wallpaper Backgrounds

Hey Kids! Do you know what time it is? It's Wacky Wallpaper Wednesday! Yes, we post some cool FREE Batman-Themed Backgrounds every single Wednesday! Why? Because I'm totally insane, yeah! This week I thought we would go with a "Batman Toy Vehicle" motif. The 1st one is a Bat-Cycle Toy that was made in the 1970's. I like the fuzzy-grainy look of it & it does make a really neat background. Please give it a try! The next one is a Diorama Set-Up made with a Corgi Car Batmobile Toy & a very small Batman Figure. This toy car looks like the one drawn by Norm Breyfogle in the 1980's Batman comic books...sweet! I wanna thank the fans who sent these pics in & if YOU want any special Bat-Wallpaper next week then just let me know!

BATMAN DESKTOP BACKGROUNDS "Wacky Wallpaper Wednesday"

Yeah, it's my favorite time of the week...Wacky Wallpaper Wednesday! But this time I am proud to say that both "Batman Wallpapers" presented here were donated by two Bat-Blog Readers named Bacon & Andrew. The first one, made by Bacon, uses an image from the recent "52" comic book series where Batman temporarily becomes a Green Lantern. This "character" became so popular that DC even made an action figure of him. Yeah, like they don't make a figure of every "Batman" that's ever existed anyway, ha ha! ( Thanks Bacon for another awesome background. This "theme" was really unexpected & very cool ). The next one was done by our friend Andrew. Actually he used an original black & white artwork drawn by Norm Breyfogle & then he colored it. Like most Batman Fans Andrew really loves the comic book artist Breyfogle & did this sort of as an homage. The main focus of this art is Catwoman. It's a great image because she looks like a classic pin-up girlie...MEOW! ( Great job on the coloring Andrew & Thank You ).

FREE BATMAN DESKTOP BACKGROUNDS Wacky Wallpaper Wednesday!

This week we present 2 brand-new BATMAN DESKTOP WALLPAPER BACKGROUNDS. The first one was sent in by a Bat-Blog Reader named Andrew. He, like most of us, is a huge fan of the 1980's comic book artwork of Norm Breyfogle. So, he took some of Breyfogle's black & white inked art then colorized it. I think he did an incredible job coloring it. It features 3 Bat-Villains: Catwoman, The Penguin, & Joker! ( Thank you Andrew for sending this in ). The next one has a "Golden Age Batman" theme. It's vintage 1940's artwork by Bob Kane. OK, We all know this was probably drawn by Bill Finger or somebody else, ha ha. But, the art is still awesome!

The 2nd one was mailed in by our friend named Andrew who borrowed some "World's Finest" artwork from Norm Breyfogle & got creative. Basically he took the black & white line art and then did a great job coloring it ( Thanks Andrew ).

Fan-Made BATMAN / CAPTAIN AMERICA Wallpaper with NORM BREYFOGLE Artwork!

Our friend Andrew made this awesome Batman Wallpaper to share with Bat-Blog readers & we love it! He wrote, "I discovered this rare drawing of Batman with Captain America on Norm Breyfogle's website and thought it might look better colored in. I gave it a whirl in Photoshop, added a bit of motion blur etc and the resulting wallpaper is attached. I hope Norm won't mind me doing it & I hope the Bat-Blog readers will like it too." WOW Andrew! You did a great job coloring Breyfogle's black & white art...nice! When I was in my 20's (in the 1980's) I seriously collected ALL the Batman comic books & Norm Breyfogle was always a favorite bat-artist. A friend of mine said he met him at a comicon one year & said he was extremely nice, a very down-to-earth guy. So, that's cool. Oh yeah, I'm putting the B&W graphic you used with the wallpaper so people can see what a great job you did. Thanks again Andrew!

BATMAN DETECTIVE COMICS # 615 COVER PROOF with NORM BREYFOGLE ART

Norm Breyfogle Fans will be in for a big treat with this post! This is the original 3M cover color separations set for Detective Comics # 615, which was published in June of 1990 by DC Comics. This is a cover proof, that is composed of 4 different acetate color sheets that when put together, form the final cover image that will be published. The top sheet is the black layer (K), that when viewed separately looks like a copy of the main line art. Below that is the Blue layer, also known as Cyan (C). Underneath that is the Red layer, also known as Magenta (M). The final layer is the Yellow (Y) sheet. Each sheet is of a plastic-type quality, and is similar in design to an animation cell acetate. The cel layers are stacked one on top of another, and affixed together onto a large thick white board. The full board measures roughly 9 3/4" x 12 1/2", and the sheets are slightly larger than the actual size comic. Please note that this cover is NOT a mass-produced print or lithograph. It is a cover proof that is created during the production process for the comic, and used internally by the comic company. This is a very cool and rare piece of comic production art that you will hardly ever get a chance to see. The cover features a great image by Norm Breyfogle, of the Dark Knight looking down at the damage below, with an awesome ghostly image of a smiling triumphant Penguin in the purple sky background. This issue was Part 2 of The Penguin Affair storyline. You can click the small picture up above for a larger, more detailed photo. Also, be sure to check out the BAT-BLOG ARCHIVES to view more Original BATMAN ART & Bat-Artists!
