This is not really a review, because I have not even seen this new product in real life yet, but it is more of an announcement of a brand-new product. This is a brand-new BBC AUDIO CD with a Radio Show of a Classic BATMAN Adventure titled "The Lazarus Syndrome". Any Bat-Fan will recognize, from the title, that this story MUST involve R'as Al Ghul. Yes, that's the main focus of the play. This show was originally created back in 1989 & this is the 1st time it's been released. One thing that's both great ( & kinda sad ) is that the "Alfred" character is voiced by Michael Gough. He was the original Actor who played that part in the early Batman films & he just recently passed away. So, it's a wonderful way to enjoy his work again. On a personal note, I have always loved his variation on Alfred so it will be cool to hear. I recently discovered a website called BATMAN RADIO and, for right now, they only have 1 audio clip ( MP3 Format ) posted but maybe later they'll have more. We'll have to see. But for right now it is a very neat Golden Age-Style story to listen to. Basically, it's an old time radio show of "The Adventures of Batman & Robin". Here's a quick post to sort of promote 2 very cool Batman-related Websites by some friends of the Bat-Blog. They're both brand-new & have a clever twist. The 1st one is called "HOLY SMOKES BATMAN!" & it's main focus is recounting ALL the different times that Robin ( Burt Ward ) said the phrase "Holy..." on the 1966 TV Series. There are actual audio clips of every phrase & if you check out the site then be sure to click on "Play The Entire Library" to hear them all & have a really great laugh! The next Batman-Fan website is actually a re-vamp of an older, existing page, except our friend Stephanie changed it around to the blogging format & it's really way better. It's called "BATMAN-CITY, The Ultimate Batman Trading Card Guide on the Web" & it's obsessive focus is collecting very detailed information about all the different Batman Trading Card Sets & Promo Cards from around the world. You know how I am totally goo-goo over "the foreign stuff" so I'm really liking it so far, ha ha! She just recently started this blog but if it become 1/2 as detailed as her other "Reference Guide" website then it should be quite good...keep an eye on it. Just Click HERE!
In the 1970's there was a recording company called POWER RECORDS. They made small books that contained comic book stories & came with a 45 rpm record to listen to. Basically you would listen to the story while reading the book. It sort of taught you how to read & the recording sounded a lot like the old-time radio shows because it has voice actors, music, & sound effects. They were really great! They made a ton of these with all kinds of characters like GI Joe, Six Million Dollar Man, Superman, plus many more. They even made a few of them with Batman characters ( Joker, Scarecrow, Catwoman, etc...). If you click on the Audio Button down below you can listen to the entire story titled, "Robin Meets Man-Bat!". The artwork for the comic was done by none other than the comic book master artist himself, Neal Adams!! I hope that listening to this brings back a lot of fond memories to people who owned it originally. Also, if you have never heard this before, then give it a listen, it's alotta fun!!
Along time ago, while hitting garage sales, I came across a paperback book titled "Justice League of America : BATMAN The Stone King". It was a trade paperback book written by Alan Grant. The cover had a painting by Alex Ross. It looked pretty cool so I bought it to add to my crazy collection. I mean, it was only 50 cents so I HAD to get it, ha ha! But, the deal is, I never got around to reading it...too busy with the Bat-Blog, I guess. Well, the other night I thought I would get on the web & track down a book review on this story to see what people thought about it. Like, if it was worth reading or not. All the reviews I was able to find said it was pretty good so, in the near future, I plan on reading it. Now to get to the Batman Audio Book shown here. While surfing the net I came across this company called GRAPHIC AUDIO that has this same book but in the audio book format. Basically you can listen to a group of actors playing out the story of this book with sound effects & everything. Sort of like "hearing a movie or play". The part that I think is kinda crazy is that it is SIX HOURS long!! Yeah, 6 full hours of Batman-entertainment...WOW! Now, I have not been able to buy this yet but at their website they have an audio clip sample to hear & it sounds like a pretty cool concept. The set comes with 6 CDs & priced at only about $19.99 it's not a bad deal. You can also download it as a MP3 for $12.99. Personally, I'd rather own the CD set because it's something I could add to my collection...we'll see. Here's a link button for their page.
